Exciting Premiere at the Integral Concert held in the City Hall South
by Stephan Pieper (translated)
Recklinghausen. In classical music, the double bass is predominantly played in the orchestra background. This however does not satisfy Julia Rhode.
She plays the big deep toned instrument as a soloist, a gripping virtuoso with an unbridled sense of adventure. Through her own compositions she explores new boundaries of expression on her instrument.
Her appearance at the Integral Festival in Recklinghausen can surely be evaluated as a genuine discovery.
Her three Pieces featured an exciting wealth of variation: A lyrical beginning followed by wild outbursts, and meditative spheres - melodious tones and atonal phrases always vying with each other – this is precisely what makes this style of contemporary music so enthralling!
